JOHN XVIII. 38. Pilate saith unto him, what is truth? One signal circumstance of our Saviour's meritorious passion, was that which we daily rehearse in the Creed, that he suffered under Pontius Pilate. And truly from the character which is given this person, not only by the Evangelists but other writers, he appears to have been a fit man for that execrable work of condemning the Lord of Life. For who was more so than the covetous and greedy Pilate, who attempted to rob the Te
